Samsung entered into mobile OS arena with the launch of its own open mobile platform “bada” (Korean for “ocean”), that enables a richer user experience in applications on Samsung mobile devices, and will compete directly against rivals like Android or LiMo. It’ll be based on universal standards and won’t consider even core aspects of OS off-limits: developers can not only use contacts, dialer and other utilities but extend them with new features of their own. Mobile carriers will be able to provide unique and differentiated services to their customers. Samsung expects the first device using bada to show in first half of 2010 along with Samsung Application Store. More phones should be ready by second half of that year while the app store will expand to 30 different countries, including key countries in Europe.
