Office 15: Improve Access 15 and SQL Server

There’s some interesting news about what’s coming next for Office 2010’s successor, codenamed “Office 15.” The planning’s already underway for next release of Microsoft’s productivity suite, as a blog post revealed, “As Office 2010 nears shipping, we’re starting to plan Office 15. One area that we’re considering improving is our SQL Server support. Based on what I’ve heard from community, that would be most welcome. Note that we’re very early in planning, and considering many possible areas of investment, I unfortunately can’t commit to any actual improvements at this time.” “What’s unique about SQL Server scenarios? Why do you turn to SQL Server instead of using a local Access database? This’s a bit of a rhetorical question, obviously there’re many features that SQL offers that local Access databases don’t, including better security, multi-user support, scalability, and manageability. And perhaps those’re main reasons. But are there other characteristics of a SQL Server solution that we should understand?,” posted Clint Covington.
