Sales of the Nintendo DS handheld have topped 3 million in the United Kingdom alone, according to the latest news from number-obsessives Chart-Track.
The Chart-Track estimate was made on March 24th, and is based on combined sales of the DS and the DS Lite, made by examining sales figures from major UK retailers and then estimating across the industry. The DS is now said to be the leading format of 2006 and 2007, though its worth noting that the handheld and its games are of course somewhat cheaper than respective console offerings.
“With many more Touch! Generations games launching in 2007, Nintendo DS and Wii will continue to be the main driving forces behind the expansion of the videogame market this year,” UK boss David Yarnton beamed amid the news. And who are we to argue? The DS Lite costs 100 GBP and comes in a number of colours.
