New OneNote Educational Features for Teachers, Office Lens for iPad and Immersive Reader

A set of improvements across OneNote Class Notebook, Learning Tools and Office Lens for iPad and iPhone.

From new languages to the ability to give stickers to students, improvements aimed at helping teachers be more productive were driven by discussions with teachers are now available across OneNote and include:

  • Class Notebook Tools on more platforms
  • Learning Tools in six new languages and support for three new dictation languages
  • New types of embeddable content
  • Updates for OneNote Class Notebook and LMS
  • Office Lens for iPad

OneNote Class Notebook Tools are now available for OneNote Online and the Windows 10, will enable teachers to work more efficiently across platforms.

OneNote Online is rolling for Office 365 Education customers is rolling today, while OneNote for Windows 10 update in the Windows Store will be available in the coming days. Once downloaded, you can enable the feature through settings in the Options menu.

Now rather sending students to Content Library to copy a page, teachers can distribute a page to all students in a class with a couple of clicks.

They can now even review students' work sequentially, by simply clicking a student's name to navigate to the page in the student's notebook. Just like in the Class Notebook add-in for OneNote 2013 or 2016, teachers are now provided with a list of all the pages they've distributed.

And a top requested feature, to make learning fun, teachers can now give students stickers with personalized messages in OneNote. In addition, new stickers packs will be releasing throughout 2017.

Stickers, in the OneNote Online app is available today, and in the coming weeks, will be available to OneNote Class Notebook add-in for desktop (2013 or 2016) and Windows 10 app.

Learning Tools across new apps and platforms including Word desktop, Word Online, OneNote Online and Office Lens for iPhone, along with improvements to original Learning Tools add-in for OneNote is rolling out today adds: "six new languages for international audiences, and the dictation in three more languages."

Explicit punctuation when dictating, now for example, saying "period" translates to "." and "question mark" translates to "?".

In addition, when IT admins deploy Learning Tools, the Update button will display on client with rights to install updates.

OneNote also now supports embedding interactive content on canvas from such as "YouTube, Vimeo, Slideshare, Sway, Docs.com, Office Mix, and Quizlet, ThingLink, GeoGebra, Wizer, and Sketchfab 3D."

OneNote Class Notebook recently launched: "Read/Unread support for page distributions and assignments in the Class Notebook add-in for OneNote," and "New LMS's supported in the Class Notebook add-in for OneNote." In addition, Skooler LMS, will soon get new assignment and grade support schedule for release in the next update of the Class Notebook add-in for OneNote desktop.

Office Lens for iPad with an improved version of Office Lens for iPhone, bring Learning Tools built right in.

Office Lens, lets you scan documents and whiteboards with iPad or iPhone camera. And, the Immersive Reader, help you hear text from the printed page, that read it back to you with highlighted words as they're read to make them accessible for all students.

A new report by Forrester, one of the world's most influential research and advisory firms, named Microsoft as a leader in its "Forrester's 2016 Enterprise Collaboration Wave" report.

Microsoft Teams app for iOS updated to version 1.0.5, now support audio calls which can be activated either from within a chat or from a contact card. Here are some of its features:

On the hand, Slack now fighting back with the same feature in their arsenal, announced earlier today, they will be rolling out a new update soon, that will make thread messaging feature available to everyone.

"Users will be able to hover over a message and start a new thread from the topic, or they can join in on others that have already been started. Additionally, View All Threads and View All Unreads will make catching up a breeze in the updated Slack."

Furtermore, subthreads won't notify you unless you are specifically mentioned or you join in.
