Navigate Google Maps with Mario for a Limited Time This Whole Week

Starting on March 10, all Mario fans out there can naviagate Google Maps Mario Kart-style for a limited time as Google is celebraitng the Mario Day (MAR10).

To honor the mustachioed plumber-turned-racer, Google has collaborated with a Nintendo team to let Mario accompany you on all of your driving adventures on Google Maps. This whole week, users can replace the generic arros icon with Mario in a go kart.

This update is available on both the iOS and Android versions of Google Maps.

To get started, first you need to download the latest update from Google Play Store or the App Store, then follow these easy steps:

Enable Mario on Google Maps Android

  • Now, open Google Maps and click on the yellow “?” icon located at the bottom right of the screen
  • Next, when a prompt comes up, simply confirm to enable Mario Time!
  • Once enabled, the navigation arrow will morphed into Mario—who will now appear on the road and will be your constant companion and follow your location while in navigation mode for this week.

Get ready to take a drive with Mario as it rolls out on Maps globally today.

In another update, starting Friday, Google is letting device makers to extend its Google Assistant by adding “native” functionality specific to their devices through a new feature a launched today for Actions, called “Custom Device Actions”. For example, a washer with a specific color cycle can be activated simply by asking the Google Assistant.

Also, Google is pushing a few other updates that’s coming your way soon:

  • Soon, you’ll be able subscribe “notifications” on your phone from your favorite Actions.
  • Also, starting today, Actions will support media playback on speakers and Android phones, giving you access to more audio experiences like longer meditation sessions, relaxing sounds, clips from your favorite TV shows and news briefings.
  • With this update, you can also easily pause or replay audio with your voice, or when you’re on your phone, you’ll see a media player you can tap to pause, replay, or even turn the screen off while the audio keeps playing.
  • With The Daily Show Action, for example, you can listen to the latest full and extended interviews.
  • New Actions that were recently launched for the Assistant are now available.
