Libya's ousted Colonel Muammar Gaddafi will be buried on Tuesday, October 25 in a secret desert grave, a National Transitional Council official said, ending a wrangle over his rotting corpse that led many to fear for Libya's governability.
"He will be buried tomorrow in a simple burial with sheikhs attending the burial. It'll be an unknown location in the open desert, at least to ensure that the plot did not become a shrine" the official told Reuters by telephone, adding that the decomposition of the body had reached the point where the "corpse cannot last any longer."
An NTC official had told Reuters several days ago that there would be only four witnesses to the burial, and all would swear on the Koran never to reveal the location.
Dailymail is reporting that a Libyan revolutionary fighter has bragged in a leaked video that he was the man who killed Gaddafi, that country's despotic former ruler.
"We grabbed him,' the fighter says in the video. 'I hit him in the face. Some fighters wanted to take him away and that's when I shot him, twice: in the face and in the chest."
The video shows the bloodied dictator after he has been hauled from his hiding place in Sirte, his hometown, being kicked and punched by his captors.
To shouts of 'Allahu akbar', and with the sounds of assault rifle fire in the background, the men manhandle the profusely bleeding Gaddafi across a patch of wasteland and into a waiting truck.

Update 10/27: Footage aired by Dubai-based Al Alaan TV purports to show the funeral of former Libyan leader Gaddafi, his son Mutassim, and Libya's former National Security Advisor Abu Bakr Yunis.
Gaddafi reportedly was buried Tuesday in a secret desert location to prevent people from defacing his grave and loyalists from turning it into a shrine.
According to The Telegraph, the commentator claims the shaky video shows open coffins containing the three men's bodies. The International Business Times reports that Gaddafi's personal cleric, Kahled Tantoush, is shown reciting an Islamic funeral prayer.
