According to latest NPD report, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 topped both Sony PlayStation 3, Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii in U.S. unit sales in July. The Xbox 360 registered 443,000 units sold for the month — more than double its total of 203,000 in the same month last year. By comparison last month, the totals were 254,000 for Wii, 398,000 units for DS and 215,000 for PS3. It’s the first time that the Microsoft has outsold all other hardware since Sep’07, when Halo 3 was launched, says NPD’s Anita Frazier in an email accompanying the data.
“Gamers appear to be embracing the revamped Xbox 360 hardware and, in some cases, switching to Xbox 360 in advance of Microsoft’s Kinect motion-based control system release later this year,” said David Dennis of Microsoft. He called it a “pretty awesome month” for Xbox 360 sales.
