Microsoft has filed a request with federal appeals court seeking a hearing on its earlier decision to uphold a $290 million jury verdict and injunction in its patent dispute with i4i Inc. over custom XML technologies in Microsoft Word. Microsoft is removing the disputed technologies from new copies of Microsoft Word to comply with the injunction, which would otherwise require the company to halt sales of the software altogether. Ludon Owen, i4i chairman, said in a statement this afternoon, “This next step of seeking a rehearing was anticipated. We continue to be confident that we will prevail.” He added, “In the meantime, the injunction against Microsoft goes into effect in three days, on Monday January 11.
