The Maryland Education Enterprise Consortium will make Google Apps for Education available to 1.4 million students in the state. MEEC is comprised of "University System of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), Maryland Higher Education Commission and Maryland Department of Education," and provides software resources and services to its 194 members across the state. This includes all 24 public K-12 districts, libraries and all public and private higher education institutions.
This agreement also enables MEEC member institutions to license Google Postini Services such as Google Message Security, for use with existing email infrastructure to enhance Spam filtering and email security for students, faculty and staff.
Also, Bergelectric Corporation have selected Google Apps, after evaluating Microsoft BPOS-S and Google Apps — "we delved deeper into the contract and piloted a production environment deployment we found BPOS-S solution came up short For e.g., we were put off to go for a 3rd party company for email archiving and retention. We realized that we would have to invest significant additional time &money into BPOS in order to meet initial expectations," said Kyle Swafford…."We revisited Apps, and found for email archiving and retention, Google Message Discovery was easier to use, significantly cheaper, better integrated into entire email migration process, and offered more features than 3rd party with BPOS."
