Apple’s Mac App Store has just hit a big milestone — now host over 10,000 applications for purchase or free download. A quick check with iOS and Mac app directory AppShopper confirming the milestone, writes that there are now 10,339 listed apps in the Mac App Store.
For bit of comparison, a Apple press release issued over a few weeks after the Mac App Store’s launch in January 2011 pointed that more than 10 billion apps have been downloaded from its revolutionary App Store by the more than 160 million iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users worldwide.
And, that the App Store now offers more than 350,000 apps to iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users in 90 countries around the world, with more than 60,000 native iPad apps available. A number that has since has ballooned to over 550,000 in recent months.
That breaks down to roughly 9,000 apps added during the last 15 months.
The 10,000 Mac App Store apps pale in comparison to the 600,000 apps available through the iOS App Store, but the Mac App Store remains a success by desktop software sales standards. Last December, the store passed 100 million downloads, making it the “largest and fastest growing PC software store in the world”.
