LinkedIn is making more aggressive response to Gawker Media's massive security breach than Gawker itself did. As word of the breach spread, "LinkedIn's security team cross-checked the list of exposed email addresses against its own database. Those LinkedIn members whose email addresses were also tied to Gawker accounts got a notification this morning saying "We've recently disabled your account for security reasons," and asking them to reset their passwords."
"Our security team is always looking proactively for anything that might potentially lead to a compromise of a member's account," LinkedIn spokesman Hani Durzy tells. "We think it's our responsibility to make sure our members are as safe as they can be and that their accounts are as protected as they can be."
Judging by a thread over at Hacker News, other tech-savvy companies might be following a similar process, including Blizzard, the operator of World of Warcraft.
