LG’s 19-inch flexible e-Paper (electronic-paper) Screen Displayed

Samsung may have ditched E-Paper production, but LG’s to begin producing “19-inch flexible e-paper, with 0.3mm thickness and 130g weight. It utilizes a metal foil instead of a traditional glass to make itself both flexible and durable. Boasting a high-contrast ratio, it only requires power when the screen is refreshed so the e-paper device features a long battery life.”

There’s also a 9.7-inch color version of e-paper in works. According SEC filing, “LG’s going to be “mass producing” the two screens, and even Amazon boss Jeff Bezo’s comments that a color Kindle is “still some ways out,” we all know that it’s inevitable.”

E-Paper is a thin, flexible sheet of plastic-like material capable of displaying images, videos, and text. It can be rewritten (refreshed) thousands of times over the span of its lifetime. There’re many different forms of e-paper that exist currently. They include E-Ink and Gyricon. E-Ink version is made by Lucent and uses thin, plastic, flexible transistors and Polymer LEDs (light emitting diodes).
