LG has expanded its line up of HD Ready plasma TVs with the new PY2R series and more affordable 42PC1D. The PY2R series, available in 50" or 60" sizes, have already won design awards from iF Design and Red Dot although it’s a little hard to tell exactly why from the pic – looks like a normal plasma from here. Still, that’s a good excuse to go and eyeball one in the flesh I reckon.

Both plasma models use LG’s exclusive XD Engine technology. Now in its second generation, the chip “takes low or standard resolution signals to near high-definition levels by improving brightness, contrast, detail and enhancing colour, as well as reducing signal noise.” Plus it looks like it’s the skinnier form of HD, 720p, for the moment though.
