Word is that Justin Bieber just joined Instagram and it's blowing up. Google+ folks, it's not too late, this would be a great photo app for G+.
A few minutes ago, the Instagram team noticed their servers blowing up. What happened? Were they under attack? DDoS? No. It was Bieber-DDoS!. Yes, the tean sensation Justin Bieber signed up for Instagram. And he tweeted out a first picture of La Traffic jam (see pic 2 below) to his 11 million+ followers. And, the result? Boom!.
For those new, "Instagram is a fast, beautiful and fun way to share your life with friends through a series of pictures. Snap a photo with your iPhone, choose a filter to transform the look and feel, send to Facebook, Twitter or Flickr - it's all as easy as pie. It's photo sharing, reinvented."
Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom, confirmed that the massive influx was a result of Bieber. He said that Bieber is gaining about 50 followers a minute at this point. All thanks to one picture. Of traffic. It has 234 likes already. And that number is also rapidly growing. Systrom says he's also getting one comment every 10 seconds or so. These numbers are unprecedented for the already popular photo-sharing service.
Celebrities on Instagram is nothing new -- Snoop Dogg is a long-time user. But Bieber is known for his cult-like following, especially on Twitter. His usage could really lead to another sign-up surge for Instagram. Instagram is just shy of 7 million users right now. And they were growing fast before Bieber -- last month they hit 5 million users.
Instagram says that they didn't reach out to Bieber to get him using the service. It's just that he heard about the service, and decided to check it out.
