James Whelton apparently was able to break through the sixth generation iPod nano's "cache comparison" system to install unofficially supported apps -- something that's possible on jailbroken iPhones and iPads.

The developer claims that he found files pertaining to movies, TV shows, apps, games, vCards, calender events and so on, with a few other cool things like a passcode lock within the iPod nano's file system leading to the conclusion that the nano's operating system is definitely a hybrid between the old iPod nano operating system and iOS. The core is the old system while the layer on top resembles iOS.

The developer details on how to bypass the iPod nano's OS will be posted in the next days.
