Microsoft's patterns & practices announced the availability of a Metro style app with C++ and XAML called "Hilo."
"Hilo is a basic photo viewing and tagging app that totally re-imagines Hilo for Windows 7 by embracing new form factors and experiences that Windows 8 enables."
"Hilo guides you though the development of a Windows Metro style app. The Hilo sample is a photo viewing and tagging app using C++ and XAML. Hilo demonstrates how to create live tiles, virtualize scrolling, suspend and resume the app, implement search, share and other contracts," Microsoft stated.
"Hilo includes a reference implementation which is a work in progress which means we will continually improve the quality of the code and add new features each iteration," explains Microsoft.
- Metro style UX (though it is still changing)
- Usage of Blend for styling and animations
- Live tiles
- Model-View-ViewModel (MVVM)
- Using Windows Runtime controls and data binding to build pages
- Unit testing C++
- Virtualized scrolling
- Fast and fluid through asynchronous operations using Windows Runtime
