Google Public DNS: Google DNS resolver released

Google have released their own public DNS resolver called “Google Public DNS,” with a goal to benefit users worldwide while also helping tens of thousands of DNS resolvers improve their services, ultimately making web faster for everyone. “Google Public DNS implements prefetching: before the TTL on a record expires, we refresh record continuously, asychronously and independently of user requests for a large number of popular domains. This allows Google Public DNS to serve many DNS requests in round trip time it takes a packet to travel to our servers and back. Google Public DNS complies with DNS standards and gives user exact response his or her computer expects without performing any blocking, filtering, or redirection that may hamper a user’s browsing experience”. To try it out: Configure your network settings to use the IP addresses 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as your DNS servers. There’re other free DNS servcies available: OpenDNS, Comodo Secure DNS, OpenNIC, DNS Advantage, take your pick after testing for the best.
