Google Maps for iPhone update now comes with new "search icons" making it finding local places faster and easier, and "integration of Google Contacts" to make it simple to find friends.
In addition, you can also choose between kilometers and miles in the settings menu, depending on your preferences.
For faster local search, just tap the search box, then tap one of the new icons for restaurants, coffee shops, bars and other types of places to quickly see nearby haunts.
And, with Google Contacts integrated into Maps for iPhone - "now when you're signed-in and search for a friend's name, you can by a simple tap on their name "see their address will appear as a suggestion on the map (visible only to you)," informs Google.

- Search your Google Contacts; sign in to have your saved addresses show up when you search for friends and family by name.
- Quickly search for local places by selecting popular categories such as restaurants, bars, cafes, gas stations, etc.
- Choose between Kilometers or Miles for your preferred distance units.

In other news, Google is quitely working on a project called "Google Shopping Express" dubbed as an Amazon Prime competitor --and is developed under Tom Fallows, an e-commerce product manager at Google.
"Google Checkout Express or Shopping Express when available will be $10 or $15 cheaper than Amazon Prime, so $69 or $64 a year and offer same-day delivery from brick-and-mortar stores like Target, Walmart, Walgreens and Safeway," TechCrunch quotes a source telling.
"When and if it launches, the product will be a competitor to Amazon Prime, eBay Now, Postmates' "Get It Now" and even smaller startups like Instacart," the source adds.
