Borrowed some ideas from the recently launched tablet interface, Google is currently experiments with a new search results page user interface for the Google Instant on the desktop.
"We've simplified the layout of search results pages and increased the size of page contents like text, buttons and other touch targets to make it faster and easier to browse and interact with search results in portrait or landscape view," wrote Xiaorui Gan, Software Engineer. "The search button located below the search box provides quick access to specific types of results like Images, Videos, Places, Shopping and more. Just tap to open the search menu and select an option to see results in one category," stated Gan. "For image results, we focused on improvements that enhance the viewing experience such as enlarged image previews, continuous scroll, and faster loading of image thumbnails," Gan said.
In the new test design, now there's a big "Search" title below the Google logo and Google Instant predictions are displayed below the header.
The new interface which is inspired with Google+ look and feel, looks weird because of the label that shows the number of results and separates the search box from the list of suggestions.
Another issue is that Google Instant only shows 2 suggestions instead of 4.
