Google Drops AdWords Converted Clicks in Favor of Conversions; DFP API v201608 Available

"Converted clicks" dropped in favor of "Conversions" in AdWords. New DFP API v201608 add support for programmatic guaranteed deals.

Upgrade your DFP API version to v201608. which bring the following additional enhancements!

Touted as the biggest feature, the support for "programmatic guaranteed deals" allows you to defining your inventory, negotiating with buyers, and trafficking to DFP all using the same API.

In addition, via the ProposalLineItem.rateCardPricingModel field, the enhanced ProposalLineItem object now provide information on whether the pricing model is Gross or Net.

Other enhancements include:

  • On the trafficking front, a new ability to delineate whether or not a creative isSafeFrameCompatible for applicable creative types such as CustomCreative is now available.
  • And, the new added viewability tracking event types added on the ConversionEvent object. Additionally, there's now support for the popular Html5Creative type.
  • And, the new ReportService.getSavedQueriesByStatement, allows you to retrieve reports you've created in the UI earlier. You can then run these using ReportService.runReportJob, the team explains.

As a reminder, there is a double deprecation this time—those of you're using v201511 or earlier, should look into upgrading to v201608.

The other deprecation is in AdWords, AdWords is saying goodbye to "Converted clicks" in favor of "Conversions," which offers much more flexibility and measurement options.

Until now, you could choose to optimize your automated bidding on "Converted clicks" or "Conversions.." As a result, the API is also updating.

As a reminder, the company further notes, that starting on September 21, 2016, "all AdWords accounts will be automatically migrated to set conversionOptimizerMode to MANY_PER_CLICK", and "new mutate operations to change this setting will fail with RequestError.INVALID_INPUT".

And, prior to Sep 21, "you must ensure that your CustomerService mutate requests do not attempt to modify the value of conversionOptimizerMode," stated AdWords team.

You can also migrate your accounts before the migration by setting conversionOptimizerMode to MANY_PER_CLICK.
