Gamers looking to prove they are among the best in the world at the multiplayer portion of Gears of War should start greasing up their chainsaws. Microsoft today announced the Gears of War 2007 Global Xbox Live Tournament, which will begin April 9. Registration for regional events is currently open at the Xbox Live Tournaments Web site.

Matches will be played in ranked games under the Warzone gametype through May 6. The top 11 ranked players will be eligible for the grand prize, a four-day, three-night vacation package to Prague, Czech Republic--the city that influenced Gears of War's art design. The top four players from each country will win a three-day, two-night trip to their country's 2007 World Cyber Games national championship event.

Secondary prizes, awarded to those ranked 12th to 25th, include Xbox 360 bundles packaged with Viva Piñata, Project Gotham Racing 3, Kameo: Elements of Power, Xbox Live Arcade Unplugged, a 12-month Xbox Live subscription, and a Gears of War faceplate.

For more information on eligibility and prize packages, read the rules of the contest.
