A9.com has launched a new iPhone app dubbed Flow powered by Amazon, a new augmented reality app that makes it easy to explore and discover tens of millions of products in a real world setting - from books and DVDs to packaged electronics and toys - and offers shoppers interactive product information about the items around them.
"With Flow, customers simply point their iPhone toward a book, video game, CD, DVD or millions of other products with UPC barcodes. Upon visual recognition of the product, the app displays Amazon.com product information, including the option to play multimedia content and read customer reviews," says Amazon.
"Flow uses continuous scan technology developed by A9.com's visual search team to identify products and provide related information found on Amazon.com. The app displays Amazon's popular shopping features such as product details, customer reviews and ratings, as well as sharing options via Twitter, Facebook, or email."
To get started, point your camera at
- Book covers
- Video games
- Or point to the UPC barcode on any product.
"Once you launch the app, aim your camera towards the items you want to identify. Flow will begin recognizing items immediately. Move your phone from one product to the next, and information is automatically delivered to the screen. For some products, media previews, like audio clips or video clips can be viewed almost instantly," notes the app description.
"If you want to learn more about a given item, or find out about related items, or read customer reviews, tap on the product information preview that appears on the screen. You can also share product details with friends via email, Facebook and Twitter, or make purchases on Amazon.com."
Flow's History feature gives you access to all your scanned items, sorted by date, product category, item name, or mapped by scan location.
Flow Powered by Amazon is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, and can be download from the iTunes App Store.
