If you’re still on Windows XP, and using an ATI Radeon HD 2400 series video adapter, chances are, you’ve security Update KB969947, and you may notice odd behavior including system hangs, bugchecks or even blank desktops during RDP sessions following installation of this patch. Customers have reported that removing the patch restores system stability. Here’s a fix for this issue:

  • Reboot system into safe mode
  • From within Add/Remove Programs, uninstall KB969947 patch
  • Restart system in normal mode
  • Click Start, and then click Control Panel
  • Double-click Add or Remove Programs
  • Select ATI driver, and then click Remove
  • Click Catalyst Control Center in the list, and then click Remove
  • Restart computer.
  • VisitWindows Update and install security update KB969947 (MS09-065)
  • Download and install latest ATI video driver from the ATI Web site
