The first two Final Fantasy games are en route to the PSP handheld, as part of Square Enix's celebrations marking the 20th anniversary of the long-running RPG series.
I and II will hit Sony's handheld in the US come June 26th, and again on July 24th. No PAL region dates have been mooted. Both classics will be 'remastered' for the PSP, according to Squenix, who also hint at improved visuals, new dungeons, 16:9 screen size and a number of other tweaks and enhancements.
The first Final Fantasy was released in Japan some twenty years ago this year, with 75 million units having been sold worldwide since.
"So much has changed within the video game industry since the first console was launched, and Final Fantasy has always pushed the envelope, creating the most advanced graphics and immersive storylines possible," beamed Shinji Hashimoto, producer. "It is amazing to see how far Final Fantasy has come in the past twenty years, and we cannot wait to continue bringing fans more Final Fantasy titles in the next 20 years."
