Facebook Introduces Another Live Experience 'Live Audio', Instant Verification for Android

Reducing SMS reliance in Account Kit, Facebook introduces instant verification for Android, new Live Audio, and more ways to connect and share specific moments via News Feed.

Continue to improve the Facebook Live experience, the company today introduces "Live Audio" feature helping listeners to discover live audio content in News Feed, ask questions and leave reactions in real time during the broadcast, and easily share with their friends.

Live Audio makes it easy to go live with audio only when that's the broadcaster's preferred format. In addition, it also presents another option for connecting with audiences in real time from low-connectivity areas.

Initially, Live Audio is launching with partners including BBC World Service , LBC, Harper Collins, and authors Adam Grant and Brit Bennett. But, according to Facebook, this new format will more broadly available to publishers and people begining early next year.

Additionally, publishers can also go live and reach audiences with audio only by using the Facebook Live API or by adding a still image to accompany their audio broadcast.

A new marketing program on Facebook to invite people to share and talk about events and moments happening in their communities is launched today around the world. With this ability, people will see messages from Facebook now at the top of their News Feed about a specific event or moment.

The goal of the feature is to "give people ways to connect and share with friends during holidays and events," writes facebook. Also, it'll help people "discover fun and interesting cultural moments, as well as they can celebrate moments in history that continue to make the world more open and connected."

Finally, to streamline the login process and reducing rely on SMS for those signing in with their phone number—the company today launched a new instant verification component that is available in the newer Facebook SDKs for Android.

Account Kit is a Facebook-powered Android phone number and email login solution that is a complementary product to Facebook Login. When a phone number is entered into an app using Account Kit, system attempt to match it with verified phone number listed on a person's Facebook profile. If a match is found, the process completes verification without sending a one-time password (OTP) via SMS, "only when a person is logged into Facebook app on the same device." Else, a SMS is sent out with verification code to complete the sign-in.

You can take advantage of the new feature by integrating the new Facebook SDK for your apps or sites using Account Kit.
