Microsoft is offering a free documentation for Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset (DaRT) via Microsoft Download Center, that include a guidance for administrators and for testers, as well as an overview of the technology.
"By providing tools that help you quickly troubleshoot and repair Windows-based desktops, Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset (DaRT) can reduce the time, cost, and frustration associated with recovering computers that will not boot," Microsoft reveals.

"DaRT, a core component of the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack for Software Assurance, helps IT teams make PCs safer to use, keeps employees productive, and enables desktops that are easier and less expensive to manage."
"Administrators can easily recover PCs that have become unusable, rapidly diagnose probable causes of issues, and quickly repair unbootable or locked-out systems, all faster than the average time it takes to reimage the machine. When necessary, you can also quickly restore critical lost files."
MDOP also offers Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V), Microsoft Enterprise Desktop Virtualization (MED-V), Microsoft Advanced Group Policy Management (AGPM), Microsoft BitLocker Administration and Monitoring (MBAM) and Microsoft Assets Inventory Services (AIS).
"Additionally, DaRT includes tools that enable you to troubleshoot the installed Windows operating system when starting Windows would not be prudent."
