Earlier this week, Manuel Lima, an interaction designer from Bing gave a fascinating talk about visualization. Folks like Manuel, Jer Thorp and David McCandless bring data to life with their work. Visualizations of the kind they work on are most powerful when they show a trend or connection that otherwise would be invisible in a traditional dataset presented in a spreadsheet.
Imagine for example trying to read a set of data about where New Yorkers moved in the last decade….and then visualize it. Check out wefeelfine.org to see how beautiful data can become. Sometimes infographics can become too dense to be useful…though at this point they often become art.
