Mario Strikers for the Nintendo Wii console has been dated today, the Big N finally confirming when the unusual Mario soccer game will be in our clutches. The company also reveal that Strikers will make use of the Wi-Fi connection for online play, when it hits PAL regions on May 25th.
Mario Strikers: Charged Football is a light-hearted interpretation of the beautiful game, featuring lively five-aside games, gravity-defying shots and special moves which are world away from the gritty realism of the FIFAs and Pro Evos that dominate the genre.
A few imaginative features will see Mario growing huge and quashing the opposition, Princess Peach freezing the opposition with her camera, and Mega Strikes which split the ball into innumerable goal-bound projectiles. As you’ve probably already guessed, famous faces such as Mario, Luigi, et al will feature, with such characters acting as ‘captains’.
Strikers will use the Wii’s variously unique controllers, in a number of unusual ways, while power-ups, ‘revenge bonuses’ and more set for inclusion. A whole host of multiplayer features, rankings and the like will feature, and off-line multiplayer is also on the agenda.
