Microsoft is committdely making Office 365 the most trusted cloud service for productivity, today the company announced the general availability of Office 365 from multiple local datacenters in the United Kingdom.
Since October 2014, the company is rapidly expanding its global cloud footprint and opened new datacenter regions in Japan, Australia, India, Canada.
These new data center regions, in addition to already available highly secure productivity capabilities, “add in-region data residency, failover and disaster recovery,” writes Microsoft.
In addition, Microsoft Azure is now generally available from multiple UK datacenter.
With new UK resions, Microsoft has total 34 Azure regions around the world with 28 generally available today, and six more coming soon.
“Microsoft Azure is a growing collection of integrated cloud and data services—analytics, computing, databases, mobile, media, networking, storage, and web—for moving faster, achieving more and saving money.”
Additonally, an exciting update to Azure SQL Database Advisor, the automated index tuning is more powerful now and reduces the time “from a week to a day” required to produce and implement index tuning recommendations.
“With the new recommendation models and greatly improved underlying automation, Database Advisor will tirelessly work 24/7 to make your database applications run blazing fast at all times,” stated Microsoft.
With these improvements, you can now run production DB workload in SQL DB for a day, and Database Advisor will provide custom tuning recommendations for improving database performance.
Additionally, “you can opt-in to automated tuning where tuning recommendations are auto-applied to database for a complete hands-off tuning experience,” explained Azure team.
Those new to Azure, “SQL Database Advisor provides custom performance tuning recommendations for databases using machine learning intelligence. It saves time, by automatically tuning database performance for you to focus your energy on building great applications.
- Database Advisor continuously monitors your database usage and provides recommendations to improve performance (create/drop indexes, and more)
- You can choose to have the recommendations be automatically applied (via Automatic Tuning option)
- Recommendations applied or rolled back manually (via Azure Portal or REST API)”
In other news, Qantas Airways, Australia has adopted Microsoft Office 365 cloud-based business tools to its workforce.
