Apple Fixes Two Airport Extreme Flaws

Apple released an update for its Airport Extreme base station product that addresses two separate security issues. The first tightens security issues with the 802.11n protocol available within the product. The second addresses an issue where the filenames of a password-protected AirPort Disk could be viewable to users on the local network, the company said in an advisory.

The update can be installed using the AirPort utility, and only affects those models with 802.11n capabilities. Of the first issue, Apple said it had to do with inbound traffic problems with IPv6, the replacement for the IP address system currently used, and the router would no longer accept inbound requests by default. The second fix would ensure a password was entered in order to view files on a local network.

?a?CŸŸK radio entered new territory this week, with the arrival of Virgin Radio on the Wii and PS3 consoles. Access to the radio channels is now possible via the web browsers on each console, and as well as Virgin Radio, you can also now listen to Xtreme, Classic Rock, and Groove.

In addition to the new radio offerings available on the two consoles, you can now buy concert tickets, CDs and downloadable tracks. Then there’s the option to play music videos, and its all through the Virgin Radio Player.

Reports suggest that you won’t be able to play games while listening to the radio, although it is certainly another feather in the cap of each system’s online offering. Virgin reckon this player and its arrival on these two new consoles will allow them to get in touch with ‘the kids’.

The Xbox 360 sadly misses out, because of the lack of web browser, though who knows what could be possible with further updates in the future.
