The Gears of War experience just got a little better over Xbox Live, thanks to the launch of the ‘Annex’ multiplayer mode just introduced. The new mode can be initiated by starting Gears of War while connected to Xbox Live and should take about a minute to lure onto your Xbox HDD.
The new multiplayer mode sees you trying to capture pivotal control points, the aim being to control enough in order to pass a points threshold, at which juncture victory has been achieved. Annex maps include objectives totaling as many as five, with at least one active at any time. Objectives are more important than kills in this new game, and team-work will be essential as players look to control points while absorbing all the precious rewards available.
The Annex update also ushers in a few other enhancements and tweaks: Assassination mode leaders are no longer essential to the unlocking of weapons, with assassination required to kill them. Splash damage has been modified. Hammer of Dawn is less accurate against moving targets. VGA cable support has been expanded, and there’s also less risk of accidentally hitting cover while on a Roadie Run. A smorgasbord of other creases have also been ironed out.
