Before the end of the year, the AMD's Spider platform containing 790FX motherboards, Radeon HD 3800 graphics cards and the eagerly-awaited Phenom quad-core CPUs. The Phenoms are set to AMD's first quad-core desktop try and unfortunately it seems that they won't enjoy a great start.
The first Phenom CPUs are set to be the X4 9500, 9600 and 9700, all AM2 part and all leaked on a CPU list of ISA Hardware, one of AMD's distributors. As seen here, the processors, the 2.2GHz 9500, 2.3Ghz 9600 and 2.4GHz 9700 (all box versions) have their preliminary price tags set to $247, $278 and $288 respectively, excluding tax. At these prices two Phenoms, the 9600 and 9700 are placed above Intel's Q6600 (2.4GHz, 8MB L2 cache) which costs $266 while the 9500 will be cheaper. Now all we need is some performance results and the actual CPUs released.
