Aleutia F5 is small footprint Windows Home Server server model. The fanless F5 offers a single-drive solution running off VIA’s 1.5GHz Eden platform (a low power variant of the C3/C7 processor), 1GB of RAM with a power consumption of just 17 watts. Two chassis will be released – one which will take a standard 3.5” drive and a second that is designed for 2.5” drives and will have Ubuntu 8.10 on board. Looking at the image available, you’ll have 2 USB sockets for additional external hard drives, but they’ll need to get rid of those VGA and PS2 sockets if they want to meet WHS logo requirements. Since it has a SATA-I controller, the smaller one can use ultra high-speed SSDs from OCZ and Patriot to serve as a rugged, stand-alone PC with no moving parts that runs Vista, Windows 7, or Linux.
Pricing for the 3.5” version is slated at $499 inc a 1Tb Western Digital Drive ($395 without the drive) whilst the 2.5” unit will be $375 and $449 with a 250Gb drive.
