A recent comScore study surveyed more than 30,000 mobile subscribers in the U.S. found, Samsung to be the top handset manufacturer overall with 25.3 percent market share. While, Android continued to gain ground in the mobile operating system market reaching 44.8 percent market share.
According to comScore MobiLens service data, “in September 2011, 234 million Americans age 13 and older used mobile devices.”
“Samsung ranked as the top OEM with 25.3%, followed by LG with 20.6% share. Motorola at positioned 3rd with 13.8%. Apple at #4 recorded 10.2% share (up 1.3 percentage points).
RIM rounded out the top five with 7.1% share of mobile subscribers.
“Google Android ranked as top as the smartphone platform with 44.8% market share (up 4.6 percentage points). Apple secured #2 position, growing 0.8 percentage points to account 27.4% of smartphone market,” said comScore.
RIM ranked third with 18.9%, followed by Microsoft 5.6% and Nokia’s Symbian 1.8%.
In September, “accessing of social networking sites or blogs from mobile increased 2.4 percentage points to 31.5% of mobile subscribers. Game-playing was done by 28.8% (up 1.9 percentage points), while 20.9% listened to music on their phones (up 1.9 percentage points),” reports comScore.
