Fall 2013 Xbox Dashboard Beta Registration Open Today - 6 Critical IE, Windows Fix Coming on Tue

Sign up for the 2013 Xbox 360 Public Beta worldwide begins July 5th. Live Gold Members get free Assassin's Creed II on July 16. July 2013 Patch Tuesday, six critical Windows, Internet Explorer updates.

Microsoft inviting Xbox Live members to participate in the 2013 Xbox Live Update for Xbox 360 Public Beta worldwide. "Space is limited, so once the spots are filled the beta will be closed to the public," microsoft stated.

The updates will introduce the ability to conduct transactions with local currency, as Microsoft Points will be retired later this year as well as improving overall performance. Not much else is known about the preview, but we expect to see yet another UI overhaul to match the upcoming Xbox One.

Users of this limited beta program will sign up directly through the Xbox Dashboard instead of Microsoft Connect (unlike other previours betas), to streamline the experience.

Users will also have to agree to an NDA (non-disclosure agreement) which prohibits testers from talking about the preview outside official Microsoft websites.

To join, look for the Xbox Beta Program tile on the home hub of the Xbox Dashboard.

Xbox Live members in any of our 41 Xbox Live-enabled markets will be able to participate in the public beta for Xbox 360. Howeve, members in Japan will have to wait to join the beta, Microsoft says it will announced the joining date later.

Update 07/06: Ubisoft's critically-acclaimed "Assassin's Creed II" will be the next game featured in the Xbox Live "Games with Gold" program on July 16th.

Xbox Live Gold members with 1600 Microsoft Points, can download "Assassin's Creed II" on their Xbox 360 for free between July 16 and July 31. "After you download it, it is yours to keep," Microsoft stated.

And, as the "Games with Gold" program gives Xbox Live Gold members two free games to keep each month--just make sure you don't miss the current "Games with Gold" game - Gold members can download "Defense Grid: The Awakening" for free until July 15.

In other news, MSRC announced the July 2013 Security Bulletin, which will be releasing seven bulletins, of which "six are critical and one is Important."

The critical bulletins address vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows, .NET Framework, Silverlight, Internet Explorer and GDI+. Additionally, it'll release an update to address CVE-2013-3660 (an issue in the Kernel-Mode Drivers component of Windows).

The Important-rated bulletin will address an issue in Microsoft Security Software.
