Microsoft Integrating More Yammer in to the SharePoint and Office 365

Microsoft enterprise social roadmap update: "SharePoint search integration; Yammer groups in SharePoint sites; Messaging enhancements; Email interoperability" and more. Expands platform integrations, including Klout.

A year back on June 25, 2012, Microsoft bought enterprise social-networking vendor Yammer, and begun integrating "Yammer" with Office 365.

Today, on the first aniversary, the company shared its enterprise social roadmap update stating, that in the coming months, "It will be releasing a number of Yammer, SharePoint and Office 365 updates designed to more tightly bind these services."

Microsoft also promising there will be "additional single-sign-on integration between Office 365 and Yammer."

Microsoft is currently rolling out incremental updates to Office 365 on close to a monthly basis.

As of July 1, "Yammer sales will also be fully aligned with the Microsoft global sales model, meaning a truly global sales team that can provide customers with the combined value of Office 365 and Yammer," Microsoft stated.

The company also highlighting significant momentum over the last year, including: "Users have grown by 55 percent to approximately 8 million registered seats. And, user activity (as measured by messages, groups and files) has roughly doubled year over year." "Paid networks have grown over 200 percent year over year," Microsoft Office team added.

Yammer-Office 365 integration roadmap

Here's what's coming in the next few months:

  • "SharePoint search integration coming to Yammer conversations and setting the stage for deeper, more powerful apps that combine social and search.
  • A new Yammer app in the SharePoint store will allow you to manually replace a SharePoint site feed with a Yammer group feed. Microsoft says it's working on settings that will make Yammer feeds the default for all SharePoint sites.
  • Enhanced real-time Yammer directed messaging and adding the ability to message multiple groups at once.
  • Redesigning the Yammer user experience to make it easier to use as a primary communication tool.
  • Improved email interoperability making it easier for user to follow an entire thread via email, respond to Yammer messages from email, and participate in conversations across Yammer and email.
  • Improved messaging infrastructure for better external communication with ability to easily include external parties in Yammer conversations.
  • Enhancing user experience in the mobile apps in iPad, iPhone, Android, Windows Phone 8, and Windows 8 apps.
  • Localization of the Yammer interface into new languages to meet growing demand across the world," informs Microsoft.

Update 06/26: Yammer has grown to nearly 8 million registered users since it was acquired by Microsoft one year ago today, said Yammer co-founder and exec David Sacks.

The enterprise social network today expands its network of colleagues with new partners, including Klout. In fact, Yammer has doubled its number of partner integrations (now at 60) since launching the Yammer App Directory in October.

By integrating with Klout, "an app for showcasing your influence in the social sphere, users can now show off their influence in the workplace on their Yammer profile. Yammer admins can turn on a deeper integration with Klout to produce Yammer-specific Klout scores for employees based on their activity within their company's Yammer network, making it a great way to identify top contributors and subject matter experts in the company," explains Microsoft.

In the past few months, Yammer has also added integrations with, "

  • 7Geese, a social performance management tool,
  • Scoop.it, a content curation platform,
  • GoodData introduced a new and improved integration in conjunction with sentiment analysis provider Kanjoya."
