AdSense Celebrating 10 Years with 2Million+ Publishers

AdSense today celebrating its 10th anniversary. Google had on June 18, 2003, launched a the self-service program that enables website publishers to serve ads precisely targeted to the specific content of their individual web pages.

"The self-service option augments the existing content targeting services for publishers announced by Google in March 2003, now making this service available to a broader universe of high-quality websites," Google stated at the time of launch.

"With Google AdSense, publishers serve text-based Google AdWords ads on their site and Google pays them for clicks on these ads - users benefit from more relevant ads and publishers can maximize the revenue potential of their websites."

Fast-forward ten years, AdSense now a core part of Google's advertising business has a community of "over two million publishers, and helped publishers earn over $7 billion last year alone."

As part of the 10th anniversary celebration, google is also sharing some tips for 10 years--watch the video below:

As of today, version 1.3 of the AdSense Management API is now available with new features to help you retrieve more publisher and reporting information.

Metadata for reporting dimensions and metrics provides information on the list of available dimensions and metrics for the publishers, as well as their compatibility.

"This is useful to help developers avoid generating reports with invalid dimensions and metrics," informs Google.

Also, you can now list the publisher's current alerts, in their default language or in the one you specify.

Finally, you can also programmatically fetch the code of an ad unit using getAdCode.

Update 06/21: AdSense has enabled a Ping Pong easter egg--just log in to your AdSense account and in the lower-left corner, mouse over the "10" banner for a few seconds, Google will start a retro Ping Pong game.
