YouTube: Connect a Channel with Google+ Page; New Search Box and Search Suggestions

YouTube creators will now begin to see the option to Connect their Channel with a Google+ page. Google expriments new search box and search suggestions features on YouTube.

Google has now begun rolling out Connect your YouTube Channel with a Google+ Page feature to all its users. "Throughout the coming weeks, YouTube creators will begin to see the option to connect their channel with a Google+ page," YouTube announced.

"Connecting with Google+ will unlock great new features for your channel, so we want you to understand all of your options. When you connect a channel with Google+, the channel will have a shared name and avatar with Google+, so making the right choice is important," adds YouTube.

A couple quick notes before starting:

  • "If you already have a corresponding Google+ page that you'd like to connect with your channel, make sure you've added your channel's Google account as a manager of that page.
  • If you don't already have a Google+ page that you'd like to connect with, that's fine. The linking process will allow you to easily create a new one."

To start the process right now, go to your advanced account settings in YouTube and click Connect with a Google+ Page.

Below is an example screen, and here's what the options mean:

Superman option will connect your channel with an existing Google+ page that your channel's Google account manages.

Superman87 will create a new Google+ page for your channel with the existing channel name.

Choose a better name lets you create a new Google+ page for your channel with any name that you specify. If you want, you can change your name entirely, or you can make subtle adjustments to your channel username, such as adding a space or other punctuation (e.g., Superman 87).

Clark Kent connect your channel with the Google+ profile on your channel's Google account.

Google says, it's generally adviseable to link channel with a Google+ page, but if you're considering using a profile instead, you can view these guidelines.

Also, Google is experimenting new search features on YouTube. The new search box still includes a search query when you watch the video. Another experimental feature shows a list of search suggestions (probably generated based on the video's title) when you watch a video and click the search box. The list of suggestions is probably generated based on the video's title.

From the new search results, when you click a video from the list, a red progress bar is now displayed at the top of the page until the video page loads. YouTube loads pages using AJAX and uses HTML5 history.pushState to change the browser URL without reloading the page.

Clicking the homepage search box and YouTube shows a list of recent searches.

To try out the new search, follow the steps below on Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari or Internet Explorer 8+:

    document.cookie="VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=jyDR-4Ljl_I; path=/; domain=.youtube.com";window.location.reload();
