The recently released updates to the publishing experience in Visual Studio 2012 and Visual Studio 2010 as part of the Windows Azure SDK for .NET 1.8 release -- now offer Web Publish Updates.

The main new features include web site project (WSP) publishing using the same new publishing workflow as web application projects (WAPs), precompile options for both WAP and WSP, per publish profile web.config transforms, and a preview of the selective publishing feature we'll be releasing in the next publish update.

You can get the new publish updates by installing the Windows Azure SDK for .NET 1.8 package from the Web Platform Installer (WebPI), or download the SDK from Download Center.

Amazon announced support for the latest version server operating system Windows Server 2012 to AWS.

Tom Rizzo, gm for the Windows team in AWS said, that the company has added Windows Server 2012 as an option for customers who want to host Windows on Amazon Web Services.

Amazon already offered support for Windows Server 2003 R2, 2008 and 2008 R2 on AWS.

Server Posterpedia v2 now available in the Windows Store helps you learn how Microsoft technologies work--for example, 'Windows Server, Exchange Server, Windows Azure, and SharePoint Server 2013.'

For those new, 'Server Posterpedia is a Windows Store app designed for Windows 8 and Windows RT that brings graphical content together with content from TechNet and MSDN. It enables you to learn about Microsoft technologies by providing deep links to Microsoft content from within a Windows Store app.'

The following features are available in version 2:

  • 'Image hotspots that allow you to get content specific to a part of the poster
  • Semantic zoom that enables easy navigation of the different groups
  • Full-screen viewing mode without the chrome and hotspots
  • Ability to share a link to a poster through email
  • App bar buttons specific to each poster
  • Technical content for Hyper-V, Active Directory, Remote Desktop Services, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008, Exchange Server 2010, Exchange Server 2007, SharePoint Server 2010, Windows Azure, SQL Server, Lync Server 2010, and Office 2013,' informs Microsoft.

Alabama Department of Education and Microsoft today launched the Alabama Microsoft IT Academy program, a new initiative focused on further developing the overall technology skills of students.

The Microsoft IT Academy Program 'will provide participating local school systems with access to Web-based instruction, software lab licenses, e-learning, official course materials, and opportunities for students to earn certifications in Microsoft product areas, such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint,' the company wrote.

'This program will be available all high schools statewide and will provide students with the valuable 21st century technical skills they need to be successful in both college and their future careers,' Microsoft added.

Update:11/22 Windows Azure now offers customers a cloud platform that can cost effectively and reliably meet the needs of Big Compute with a massively powerful and scalable infrastructure, new instance configurations, and a new HPC Pack 2012.

A recent Windows Azure benchmarks show top performance for big compute -- the test validated the power of Azure for Big Compute applications by running the LINPACK benchmark shows --"151.3 TFlops on 8,065 cores with 90.2 percent efficiency."
