Bing on Friday, November 16, released the first set of its Webmaster Guidelines. The Bing Webmaster Guidelines can be found in the Help section of Bing Webmaster, under the Content Guidelines section.
"These Webmaster guidelines are broad, but provide guidance on major points," bing stated,
"They are not exhaustive and you should not expect to find deep, technical answers in them. They are intended to help most business owners understand the broad strokes of search marketing," bing added.
Topic covered in the guidelines include:
- Technical SEO
- Social Media
- Things to Avoid
Here is the details of few sections:
Content. Bing says, "Websites that are thin on content, showing mostly ads, or otherwise redirect visitors away from themselves to other sites quickly tend to not rank well. However, sites with "clear, deep, easy to find content on your website, are more likely to index and show your content in bing search results."
Links. Like Google, Bing also doesn't endore link abuses such as buying links or participating in link schemes (link farms, etc.). Instead, it likes links grow organically.
Social. Bing says "Social media plays a role in today's effort to rank well in search results. The most obvious part it plays is via influence. If you are influential socially, this leads to your followers sharing your information widely, which in turn results in Bing seeing these positive signals. These positive signals can have an impact on how you rank organically in the long run."
Bing further said, these guidelines will get updates over time, and that the "changes should be infrequent as these current Webmaster Guidelines cover most major topics."
Bing is also hosting six free Webmaster Webinars of eo minutes each across different topics during November, December, January and February. "These webinars will be recorded for future viewing as well and."
