A new Chrome extension brings locations to life in Google+, wrote by a former intern, Martin Matysiak, the add-on called "Dynamic Maps for Google+" that makes Checkin maps on Google+ dynamic by replacing them with a real Google Maps map as soon as you hover them.

You can then explore the surroundings of the Checkin right from within Google+!

The code is open source: https://code.google.com/p/clickthrough-maps/, and the extension can be downloaded here.
