Twitter app for iPhone and Android version 4.3 update released today brings following several new features:

Expand Tweets
Until, now avilable on twitter.com, now, you can also expand Tweets on Twitter for iPhone and Twitter for Android. "When you tap a Tweet linking to a Kickstarter project, you can play its video directly from the Tweet details view in your app. You can also read article summaries when you tap Tweets linking to sources, or play videos or view images when you expand Tweets linking to websites," explains Twitter.

Experience events
You can also discover the best Tweets and photos for events experiences like twitter.com/#NASCAR on your iPhone. Now, Twitter for iPhone complements any live event, whether you're watching from home or from the stands.

Search simply
Twitter also made major improvements in search autocomplete so that you will see more suggestions when you search for people. As before, you can search for real names or @usernames before you complete your query.

Receive notifications
While it's always been possible to receive Tweets via SMS from your favorite Twitter accounts, now the updates adds "push notifications for Tweets." You can get notifications from people you follow whenever they send a new Tweet or Retweet.

You can turn on push notifications for Tweets for any user via the action button on their profile, and edit these notifications in your account settings on your device.

Twitter today open soureced the "Twemcache," under the New BSD license.

Today, "we have hundreds of dedicated cache servers keeping over 20TB of data from over 30 services in-memory, including crucial data such as user information and Tweets. Collectively these servers handle almost 2 trillion queries on any given day (that's more than 23 million queries per second)," revealed Twitter.

"We have been running Twemcache in production for more than a year and a half. Twemcache is based on a fork of Memcached v1.4.4 that is heavily modified to improve maintainability and help us monitor our cache servers better."

The video below illustrates how over time Twemcache is able to adapt to a shifting size pattern and still remain effective:
