Xbox SmarGlass SDKMicrosoft on June 21st, released software development kit (SDK) for SmartGlass Xbox, announced at the recently held E3 conference. "SmartGlass is an application for Windows 8, Windows Phone, and other portable devices that will connect phones, PCs and tablets with your Xbox 360 console by displaying supplemental content on those devices."

The SmartGlass SDK is available to "partners that have agreements to develop Xbox games or entertainment applications for the Xbox 360 console," a Microsoft spokesperson said.

It also appears to be available to Microsoft employees.

The SDK includes Xbox SmartGlass Studio for building SmartGlass "activities"; a JavaScript library, which includes "a set of device APIs that are consistent across all platforms"; and sample code.

Also, Microsoft has just released a system update for the Xbox 360 over Xbox LIVE.

Starting today when you sign in to Xbox LIVE "you'll receive a prompt to accept this mandatory update," Microsoft posted. If you are signed into LIVE already, you may be signed out and asked to accept the update and you'll be back online in a few moments.

The update comes with "Behind the scenes foundational improvement that will not be visually noticeable, but will help enable an easy update this Fall. There is an area that some of you may notice: We've added voice search for Australia and New Zealand," Microsoft adds.

Reactive Extensions (Rx) v2.0 Release Candidate (RC) with Windows 8 Release Preview support

Also, Microsoft announced the availability of Reactive Extensions (Rx) v2.0 RC version.

In addition to already supported platforms such as .NET 4.5, Silverlight 5, Windows Phone 7, and .NET for Metro style apps. Microsoft added back the support for .NET 4.0, allowing users to move to .NET 4.5 at their own pace.

"Keep in mind though, some parts of Rx rely on advanced .NET 4.5 capabilities (such as ExceptionDispatchInfo) and provide a better together story with other .NET 4.5 features (such as async/await), so we still recommend to try out .NET 4.5 whenever possible," Microsoft explained.

This release also supports .NET Framework 4.5 Release Candidate, as well as Windows 8 Release Preview, and integrates fully with the Visual Studio 2012 RC.

Rx v2.0 Release Candidate (RC) build is downloadable through the Download Center and NuGet.
