Samsung just played down the rumors that surface on the internet, cliaming that Samsung is readying a Facebook rival - stating that this is not true and the rumor is groundless.

In a blog entry, company posted that there have been inquiries and a few articles claiming that Samsung is going to offer a Facebook-like service, being developed under a code-name called 'Samsung Facebook.' However this is not true and the rumor is groundless.

"'Family Story' has been available since February 2012 on Samsung Smart TVs, Smartphones, Tablets and the web. This service, like its name, is a family-oriented convergence service that focuses on sharing and storing families' special moments," the company posted on its blog.

Samsung however, acknowledged that they are currently working on upgrading 'Family Story' to provide consumers with enhanced experiences, but this is far from a "Samsung Faceboook" as some are claiming it to be.

Also, Samsung is introducing "TecTiles" for its NFC-equipped smartphones, like the Galaxy S II and Galaxy S3, and the Galaxy Nexus -- an app which lets you read & write TecTile NFC Programmable Tags.

"You can create TecTiles to change settings on your phone, launch applications, check-in to places, update social status, or even make phone calls or send text messages automatically. Once you create a TecTile using the TecTile app, place the TecTile in a convenient place, then tap your phone to the TecTile to perform the action stored in the TecTile," Samsung stated.

You will need Samsung TecTile NFC Programmable Tags to use with this app. You can buy tags in your mobile phone store, or from official Samsung TecTile website and store.

For 14.99 for a pack of five, you can slap these NFC stickers on the steering wheel, by the front door, on the corner of your desk or anywhere you see fit. They'll allow you to swipe your phone across them and it will automatically adjust itself to predetermined settings or actions that you've already programmed in.

That's not all, Brands will also have the opportunity to buy a couple batches of TecTiles and program them to automatically perform a check-in on Facebook or foursquare, connect to WiFi, or automatically download content to the device when tapped.
