Linux Integration Services Version v3.3 for Hyper-V is a set of drivers that enable synthetic device support in supported Linux virtual machines under Hyper-V. "When installed in a supported Linux virtual machine running on Hyper-V, the Linux Integration Components provide."

  • Driver support: Linux Integration Services supports the network controller and the IDE and SCSI storage controllers that were developed specifically for Hyper-V.
  • Fastpath Boot Support for Hyper-V: Boot devices now take advantage of the block Virtualization Service Client (VSC) to provide enhanced performance.
  • Timesync: The clock inside the virtual machine will remain synchronized with the clock on the virtualization server with the help of the pluggable time source device.
  • Integrated Shutdown: Virtual machines running Linux can be shut down from either Hyper-V Manager or System Center Virtual Machine Manager by using the "Shut Down" command.
  • Symmetric Multi-Processing (SMP) Support: Supported Linux distributions can use up to 4 virtual processors (VP) per virtual machine.
  • Heartbeat: Allows the virtualization server to detect whether the virtual machine is running and responsive.
  • KVP (Key Value Pair) Exchange: Information about the running Linux virtual machine can be obtained by using the Key Value Pair exchange functionality on the Windows Server 2008 virtualization server.
  • Integrated Mouse Support: The cursor is no longer bound to the VMConnect window when used with the Linux Graphical User Interface.

HPC Pack 2008 R2 Service Pack 4 provides improved reliability, as well as an enhanced feature set including:

"You can submit jobs to an on-premises head node or to the Windows Azure HPC Scheduler over the HTTPS protocol on port 443. You can now mount a VHD to both Windows Azure worker nodes as well as VM nodes," Microsoft stated.

Hpcpack is installed automatically on Windows Azure worker nodes in a "burst" scenario. You can use hpcpack to copy files from the storage account to a Windows Azure node, or from a Windows Azure node to the storage account.

Windows Azure Plugin for Eclipse with Java (by Microsoft Open Technologies), June 2012 CTP released today include following main additions:

  • New Windows Azure Deployment Project wizard enables you to select your JDK, Java server, and Java apps right in the improved wizard UI. The list of out-of-the-box server configurations to choose from now includes Tomcat 6, Tomcat 7, GlassFish OSE 3, Jetty 7, Jetty 8, JBoss 6, and JBoss 7 (stand-alone), and it is user-customizable. (This UI improvement is an alternative to dragging and dropping compressed files and copying over startup scripts, which was previously the main approach. That method still works fine but will likely be preferred only for more advanced scenarios now.)
  • Server Configuration role property page enables you to easily switch the servers and applications associated with your deployment after you create the project, as part of the Role Propertiesdialog box.
  • "Publish to cloud" wizard is an easy way to deploy your project to the Windows Azure cloud directly from Eclipse, automating all the heavy lifting of fetching credentials, signing in, uploading, and so on. (This is a contribution from our Java partner GigaSpaces Technologies Ltd.)
  • Widows Azure Toolbar provides easy access to several commonly used actions: Run in emulator, Reset emulator, Create cloud package, New Windows Azure Project, Publish to Windows Azure cloud, Unpublish.
  • Componentsproperty page makes it easier for advanced users to set up project dependencies between individual Windows Azure roles in the project and other external resources such as Java application projects, as well as to describe their deployment logic.
  • Package for Windows Azure Libraries for Java (by Microsoft Open Technologies, Inc) - consists of all the JAR files needed for programming the Windows Azure APIs, including the Windows Azure Libraries fo Java. This package is for users who do not use Maven and would rather not have to download all the JAR files on their own.
  • Instance input endpoint configuration UI helps enable remote debugging and JMX diagnostics for specific compute instances running in the cloud in scenarios with multi-instance deployments.
  • Windows Azure Access Control Services Filter (by Microsoft Open Technologies, Inc) enables Java application to seamlessly take advantage of Windows Azure Active Directory Access Control (ACS) authentication using various identity providers (such as Google, Live.com, and Yahoo).

System Center Monitoring Pack for System Center 2012 - Service Manager available today, should be used to monitor System Center 2012 Service Manager.

It includes monitors for the management server as well as the Data Warehouse server. In this release of the management pack, the Data Access Service, Health Service, Configuration Service, and workflows are monitored.

Feature Summary

  • Monitoring for the System Center Data Access Service
  • Monitoring for the System Center Configuration Management Service
  • Monitoring the Health Service Run As Accounts
  • Workflows Monitoring

New versions of the "Provance IT Asset Management Pack" and the "Provance Data Management Pack" are now available for Microsoft System Center 2012 incorporate many new and exciting features, including:

  • Asset Request Management using the new System Center 2012 Service Catalog
Quickly and easily create Request Offerings from the Hardware and Software Catalogs you're maintaining in the Provance IT Asset Management Pack to allow users to place Service Requests for IT assets using the System Center 2012 self service portal.
  • Expanded Use of Notification for Proactive Agreement Management
Now you can send key stakeholders automatic e-mail notifications alerting them that key events or milestones related to an agreement, such as an audit or renewal, are scheduled to occur. Provance agreement notifications have also been extended to include software agreements and licenses.
  • Data Management Made Even Easier
Many new enhancements to the Provance Data Management Pack make it even faster and
easier to bring data from external sources into your System Center 2012 deployment. You can now preview source data and templates during an import to ensure their validity. You can make changes to the columns in your source data without affecting a template built from the source. The data source can now be saved as part of a template, so you don't need to select your input for each import. And by popular request, the Data Management Pack now supports LDAP as an input for System Center 2012!

Microsoft Driver for Node.JS for SQL Server "public preview" release available today enables access to SQL Server and Windows Azure SQL Database from any Node.JS applications.

"You can use the Node.JS driver in Windows Azure Web Sites by following this simple tutorial, and prior to the publish phase, copying the node-sqlserver driver into your node_modules directory," Microsoft stated.
