On Lumia, Nokia bings more updates to its Maps and Transport apps today. "Today we are in fact making your mapping experience more personal with your photos, places reviews and favourite synchronisation," Nokia said.

First, with Nokia Maps now you can add a photo to a place description and leave a relevant review directly from your Nokia Lumia. Your contributions will be then available to you and everyone else on Nokia Maps and on maps.nokia.com.

Second, Nokia Maps can now automatically sync your favourites with maps.nokia.com, across platforms (Nokia Lumia, Nokia Belle, Nokia N9) and with the mobile web version m.maps.nokia.com for iOS and Android. Just connect Nokia Maps with your Nokia account and you're good to go.

Nokia Maps Auto Sync Favourite Routes

Windows Phone offers a great way to personalize your smartphone: on your Nokia Lumia, you can pin applications, features, functions and individual items to the start screen. With Nokia Maps you can already pin individual places or places categories, but the new Nokia Maps lets you "also pin to start the directions to get to a place on foot, by car or by public transport. You'll have instant access to the best route there, wherever you happen to be."

When traveling or you are in a new area of your city, now you can view upcoming station names and stopping times while in transit, so you can enjoy your journey, even to a destination you have never been to before.

Nokia also improved the search engine in Nokia Transport: the app now remembers your last searches and you can change your search details without leaving the journey view.

From June 4th to June 29th 2012, a selected group of New Yorkers using LIRR (Long Island Rail Road) will be testing a pilot program that uses NFC smartphones in an un-gated commuter rail system. "In other words, soon enough NFC technology will make Nokia Transport evolve into a complete experience, from journey planning to ticketing," Nokia said.
