The adCenter update rolled out in May brings the following features and improvements:

Location Targeting: "Changes coming to how adCenter targets by location "may require you to follow a few simple steps in order to maximize your campaign performance if you're targeting one of the 10,000 cities that will be removed from the US and Canada markets," Tina Kelleher notes on Microsoft advertising blog.

"Although these non-supported cities are seeing no traffic, which means your campaigns will not be negatively impacted by this change, it is recommended that you update your targeting to a supported city in order to maximize performance," Kelleher adds.

Follow the steps below:

  • "Download a spreadsheet containing the non-supported cities and recommended cities to switch to.
  • See if the city you're targeting will be removed and note the recommended supported city that should be switched to.
  • In adCenter, replace the non-supported city with the supported city for each affected campaign and ad group," explains Kelleher.

Capitalization of Dynamic Text improvement makes it easier and more efficient to "import ads from other engines to adcenter." "With this update, you can capitalize your ads in bulk using the following syntax (rather than manually doing it one keyword at a time)," she said:

  • {KeyWord:default} = First Letter Of Each Word Will Be Capitalized.
  • {KEYWORD:default} = First Letter Of Each Word Will Be Capitalized. - same as {KeyWord}
  • {keyword:default} = all letters will be lower case.
  • {Keyword:default} = First letter is capitalized.
  • {KeyWORD:default} = First LETTER OF FIRST WORD AND ALL SUBSEQUENT WORDS.
  • {KEYWord:default} = FIRST Word And All First Letters Of All Subsequent Words.
  • {KeyWord:default } will be default/first option available for selection ( space is defaulted to first example)

All other combinations (ex: KEywOrd, KeYWord etc.) will be treated as {KeyWord}.

Improved User Interface: Opportunity Tab

When there are bidding or budgeting opportunities that may help improve your campaign's performance, new sub-tab options will display suggestions. If you opt not to accept these suggestions, you'll have the option of telling us why not, such as "Not now, maybe later", "Campaign isn't a priority" and "Performing well already", which will help our engineering teams in developing this feature further.

Desktop: Custom Location Radius Targeting
In addition to being able to set radius targeting around business locations in the adCenter Desktop, you now have the flexibility to set targets around custom locations.

  • "Create a new custom location or search for a custom location in the targeting properties sheet.
  • Target a radius around one more more custom locations.
  • Target both business and custom locations for given campaign or ad group.
  • To use this new feature…
  • Go into "Targeting Options"
  • Select "Locations"
  • You will see a new "Custom location" tab where you can either enter or search for locations synced from adCenter," explained Kelleher.
