New Bing Home Page featuring larger daily image, imrpoved tile-esque

Bing along with new Metro Release Preview apps also revamped its homepage that now features a larger daily image and an improved pane of tile-esque highlights at the bottom. And, also the new social Bing is available today in the US at www.bing.com.

You can now access Bing's new three column design , including the snapshot feature and social features. You can read more about the new social search experience on Bing here.

Microsoft also reveals, that according to a recent internal survey, nearly 75 % of people spend more time than they would like searching for information online. "With Bing's new design, you can access information from the Web including friends you do know and relevant experts that you may not know letting you spend less time searching and more time doing."

Bing also released today, the new sidebar feature including snapshot which allows you to take action and do more directly in Bing.

"Snapshot is the center column of Bing search results, residing between the standard results on the left and the new sidebar on the right. Snapshot brings relevant information related to a search right on the main results page, including maps, movie times, restaurant menus and reviews so people can act quickly. Bringing in useful information and working with partners across the globe, such as OpenTable, takes you from finding to doing as we integrate these services and structured data into the search page. Booking a restaurant or looking at reviews is now quicker and simpler with a column dedicated to getting things done," explains Bing.

You will notice that snapshot doesn't appear every time you search and for good reason.

"We determine what type of content surfaces based on the search. This is just the start. We will be expanding the categories and updating information dynamically to provide the most helpful information possible," Bing said.

Bing also unveiled a new advertising campaign to support the introduction of search plus social and announcing the "Bing Summer of Doing." "As part of this campaign, Bing is joining forces with DoSomething.org, the largest U.S. organization for teens and social change, to inspire people to give back to their communities," Microsoft said.

The alliance kicks off today in Los Angeles at Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA), with additional community volunteer events planned throughout the summer in various cities across the nation, including Atlanta, New York and Chicago.

In addition, a U.S. national daily challenge called "The Hunt, 11 Days of Doing," designed to drive action, will be hosted online by DoSomething.org later this summer.

"The Hunt will inspire teens to participate in 11 days of challenges to create positive community impact. Beginning July 10, teens will be presented with a new series of challenges each day, focused on a specific cause. Teams will work together to complete the challenges and report back to show how they were able to create measurable impact in their community, all while collecting points to win prizes," Microsoft said.
