Kinect SDK v1.5 is now available with VB Samples. The Kinect team has included a "Basics" series of samples with language coverage in C++, C# and Visual Basic.

"Although not every sample has a VB equivalent, there is definitely enough content to get VB developers and running with this amazing technology and the great potential this opens up for interacting with you applications," the team posted.

The new version of the SDK is able to be used with existing Kinect for Xbox360 hardware for you own personal development purposes and this should get you going if you happen to have one lying around, however the newer more advanced Windows Sensor is definitely recommended and should be planned for if you want to do anything for public release.

"As developers start to realize the full potential of Microsoft Kinect and new hardware is made available for the PC it's really great to see the Kinect team provide some sample support for VB developers," the team posted.

Also, Grid Logic released a new version of the Office Integration Pack and has opened up source code for community contributions on CodePlex!

Office Integration Pack

This new version expands upon the export APIs so that you can export any collection to Excel or Word. Collections can come from queries on your screens, or queries executed directly against the DataWorkspace. They can even be in-memory collections or LINQ queries and projections. They also have added the ability to format data as it is being exported.

For those not aware, "Office Integration Pack was first released last year, is a LightSwitch extension that makes it easy to manipulate the 2010 versions of Excel, Word and Outlook in a variety of ways common in desktop business applications.

You can create documents, PDFs, spreadsheets, email and appointments using data from your LightSwitch applications. With the release to CodePlex they "are actively developing new features and welcome the community to help!" (see their website)."
