YouTube shared a number of updates that will be made available over the next few days that make the process of configuring monetization and choosing custom thumbnails on the upload page, and improved metadata editing more efficient.

Configure monetization settings
The new upload interface features a Monetization (or Claiming Options) tab where you can select monetization settings while you upload. Click the "?" icons to learn more about the different options available. Basically, more monetizing, less scrolling and clicking.

Custom thumbnail uploads
You can now upload a custom thumbnail after the video reaches the processing stage.

Metadata, meta-easy
The metadata editor in the upload process interface is also available in the Video Manager. "To access and edit these settings after your upload is complete, go to the Video Manager and click the Edit icon next to the video. This will direct you to the new metadata editor page. Here you can adjust settings you made to your video during the upload process, such as change monetization settings or publish a private video by changing it to public," explains YouTube.

Alos, YouTube now shows a warning at the top of the page when some of the videos from a playlist have been deleted from YouTube. The warning is only displayed when you open the playlist and there's also a button that lets you remove the videos that are no longer available.

Now that YouTube replaces the title with "deleted video" and the video page only shows an error message, YouTube could automatically remove the missing videos. With this change YouTube has also removed a very useful feature that helped finding similar videos by "no longer" showing the title of a video after it's been deleted.

Finally, YouTube Preview, that shows a filmstrip of thumbnails when you mouse over a video, is now available in the HTML5 player as well in addition to flash player. Unfortunately, the HTML5 player doesn't support yet the second seek bar for videos that are longer than 90 minutes.

If you uninstall or disable the Flash player, YouTube automatically switches to the HTML5 player, assuming that you have a browser that supports the video tag. Obviously, you can still manually switch to the HTML5 player.
